In this episode, Bill Heinrich, head of assessment and experiential learning for the Hub, talks about My Spartan Story, a new interactive web-based platform to track MSU student learning experiences outside of the classroom. He speaks with Leslie Thompson, an academic advisor in the College of Natural Science, and Dr. Mark Becker, associate chair, associate professor and director of undergraduate education in the MSU Department of Psychology, about the development and functionality of the platform and how it can lead to the Spartan Experience Record: a printed complement of the traditional academic transcript.

We’re expanding our focus with this episode and discussing a project with international implications. We are joined by Dr. Bill Heinrich, from the Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology and Dr. Kurt Richter, from the Center for Global Food Systems Innovation. They discuss a capacity building project in Malawi that taught design thinking to a group of researchers. It is an interesting discussion that highlights how the methods used in design can have implications for scientific research.

Episode 6 – Enterprise Learning Design

We have a really interesting episode of the Hubcast for you this month. Prof. Bill Hart-Davidson, from the College of Arts and letters, is back, along with Instructional Systems Designer Mark Hodgins. They discuss their recent project, entitled Enterprise Learning Design, which focuses on structured conversations between a variety of stake holders around enterprise level systems. Episode 5(c) – Planning for the Future with Coursera (Department of Media and Information)

We’re doing things a little differently on the Hubcast this month. Instead of one conversation, we’re are releasing three.  Each of these episodes is a conversation with a different college or department within MSU. While the questions were similar, the responses varied based on the needs, and goals of each organization. Feel free to pick the one that most aligns with your current situation, or listen to all three if you’d like to hear multiple perspectives on MOOCs in general, and Coursera specifically.

Episode 4 – Revising Professional Writing

This episode of the Hubcast is a conversation between Stuart Blythe, Associate Professor in the Writing Rhetoric and American Culture Department, Caroline White, Learning Technology Designer, and Hanna Kielar, Engagement Assistant,  about the revision of MSU’s Professional Writing program.

Caroline assisted in facilitating conversations and planning between the faculty members who teach within the Professional Writing program. They discuss how this process helped provide Professor Blythe the opportunity to operate as a faculty member within the program, instead of as a meeting facilitator. Hanna, who is a student within the program, offered her reactions to the revisions.
