Devon Akmon is both a proud alumnus of Michigan State University and a native Detroiter. He believes in the power of cultural organizations to inform and transform communities. Devon brings to Science Gallery Detroit over 15 years of experience in nonprofit management, as well as extensive expertise in arts administration, curatorial practice, and community building through the arts.
Previously, Devon served as a Senior Consultant with the DeVos Institute of Arts Management and as Director of the Arab American National Museum (AAMN). As director of AANM, Devon established new relationships with individuals and organizations that resulted in the expansion of the museum’s mission and programming throughout the nation.
At present, Devon is a board member of the American Alliance of Museums, Artspace, and CultureSource. In 2013, he was named one of Crain’s Detroit Business magazine’s “40 Under 40” business leaders. In 2016, Devon was named one of twelve American Express NGen Fellows with Independent Sector.
